They are now alone, vulnerable, and struggling to secure the most basic necessities: food, water, medicine, and shelter. After nearly nine months of relentless genocide, Gaza's borders remain closed, trapping everyone inside. The only way out is to pay an exorbitant amount, between $8,000 and $11,000 per person, to cross the Rafah border into Egypt when it occasionally opens. For my family, the total cost to reach safety in Egypt is overwhelming and seems impossible to afford. My family has lost everything. Some have tragically passed away, and those who remain are without shelter, moving from one temporary refuge to another in a desperate attempt to stay alive.
